Produced by comedy man-of-the-moment Judd Apatow, this smutty comedy hits DVD this week. After the success of Knocked Up, star of that hit, Seth Rogan writes this tale of three teenage friends who embark on a wild night of drink, partying and girls before they head off to college. It may sound like another generic teen comedy but Reel Weekend discovers a surprisingly touching tale which offers much more than it's set up might suggest.

Walk Hard is a spoof of the musical biopic, most notably the Johnny Cash movie Walk The Line, but with elements of Ray, The Rutles and of course This Is Spinal Tap thrown in for good measure. It’s the story of Dewey Cox, a good ol' boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and his ascent through the world of country music. John C Reilly gives the character of Dewey far more depth than you’d expect, and embraces the chance to make himself looks ridiculous in nearly every scene.
