Album Focus: Blood Red Shoes – 'Box of Secrets'
Blood Red Shoes' debut album Box of Secrets is so good we've made them band of the week in Encoded's Album Focus show. Although they've been around for quite some time, it's clear from album opener Doesn't Matter Much that their frenetic clatter hasn't been dulled by the passage of time, smacking just as hard as it does live, and introducing the band in a manner befitting a returning hero...

Hi, I'm Nate Lanxon, and you're watching the Encoded Album Focus Show, where each week we take a closer look at one of the more interesting new releases. This week the focus is on Blood Red Shoes, whose debut album, Box of Secrets, came out on Monday.
For a band releasing their debut album, Blood Red Shoes have been around for quite some time; in fact it's been so long since they first hit the scene that enough time has passed for their style to become ridiculously unfashionable, and then somehow quite fashionable again.
But why the hold up when they've been as busy as ever on the live circuit? It's all about a little thing called 'red tape', which is a very sticky strip of plastic that stops American goalies signing for Premier League clubs and Western governments intervening even when elections are clearly being rigged in other countries.
What Box of Secrets does more than anything is get you excited about what BRS will do next. This is a really strong debut, but I'm sure it's just a fraction of what they can achieve.
Head over to the XFM site to download three tracks they recorded in session last month.
I'll be back next week with my magnifying glass trained squarely on Parisian lovebirds John & Jehn, so until then, do the right thing.
