Encoded | 27 March 2008

This week we're having a journey into Antidotes, the new album from indie hypemongers Foals, which promises to be a killer release for 2008. From album opener 'The French Open' through to closing track 'Tron', Antidotes is a journey through precise, intricate, layered instrumentation, which despite having plenty of chin-scratching moments, still packs enough of a bassy, snarey kick to keep the kids dancing.

First up is Supergrass – no, they're not dead – with their new track 'Bad Blood', which sees them go from normal to weird in the space of three minutes; closely followed by Johnny Flynn, with his cute, quirky take on 'Leftovers'; and bringing up the rear are those French romantics John & Jehn, who sing about '20L07', which is all about love... and stuff. Enjoy!

Album Focus: Neon Neon – 'Stainless Style'

Encoded | 20 March 2008

This week we get shiny, bright and super non-stick with Neon Neon, whose debut album Stainless Style has just been released. Neon Neon is a collaborative project between Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys and electro pioneer Boom Bip, who first hooked up a couple of years ago when Gruff provided the vocal for Boom Bip's track 'Dos and Don'ts.' Now they've decided to do a whole album together and roped a load of their pals in to help, and the result is one of the most infectious, accessible and ultimately poppy albums that you'll hear this year.

All, frankly, quite weird.

First up is 'Grounds For Divorce', the cheerfully named new single from Elbow, the video to which sees the band gigging in a classic 70s-style British boozer; 'Get Over It' is next on our list – it's the latest offering from experimental Scottish popsters Guillemots; and finally the amazing video for Neon Neon's 'I Lust U', which documents the tragic events at a jellyfish competition, had us transfixed. What are your thoughts on these? Let us know in the comments sections below.
